Understand roles and permissions

Learn why different people see different content and controls.

Access has layers

Network membership, group membership, and resource permissions affect what you can read or change. Administrator roles can expose additional settings. A shared URL does not grant access by itself.

Ask for the right permission

Describe the action you need to take and the resource involved. Ask the owner or administrator for the minimum access needed rather than a broad administrator role.

Administrator checks

Review permissions when people change roles or leave. Test access with ordinary member accounts, and do not assume an administrator's view matches every member's view.
